Renal Artery Duplex

A renal artery duplex is an ultrasound of your arteries which supply blood to you kidneys. It evaluates the blood flow to your kidneys and may also answer questions regarding treatment of your high blood pressure.

How do I prepare for it?

You are instructed to fast for 4 hours. It takes 30 minutes to perform the test. The technologist applies a gel on the transducer and probes along the front of your abdominal wall to look at the size, blood flow and pressures in the arteries supplying your kidneys.

When do I obtain my results?

All patients are expected to return to follow-up on test results. Dr. Ahmad will discuss results with you in great detail with the aid of diagrams and images. Your questions and concerns will be answered as well. For your safety and privacy results are given in person and not over the phone.
